How a virtual card works
A virtual card is a card number, expiry date and security code issued digitally and linked to your account balance. There is no plastic — you copy the details into a checkout page, or add the card to a mobile wallet where that is supported.
Spending draws on the funds you have topped up, so the available balance is the real limit on day-to-day use alongside any platform caps.
What people use it for
Virtual cards suit online spending where speed and separation matter.
- Subscriptions and software billed monthly.
- E-commerce checkouts and marketplaces.
- Advertising and business tools that require a card on file.
- Travel bookings made online rather than in person.
Limits, checks and merchant acceptance
Issuance, per-transaction limits, and supported regions are set by RedotPay and depend on your verification level. Some merchants decline prepaid-style cards, and some require a billing address that matches the account — worth knowing before you rely on a single card for a critical payment.
Virtual or physical: which to choose
Choose virtual if your spending is online and you want to start immediately. Choose physical if you need in-store payments, contactless, or cash access. Many users keep both on the same account.
